Every interior project is not just a visualisation but dozens of decisions that have to be implemented precisely on site.
That is why we offer design supervision — so that no detail is lost during construction.
We check that all work follows the approved concept: layout, materials, colours, furniture placement and lighting. Design supervision helps avoid critical mistakes, save budget and preserve the integrity of the design idea.
We provide design supervision for residential interiors and for commercial projects — offices, clinics and service venues, where the precision of execution directly affects how the business works after opening.
Our team regularly visits the site, checks progress and works with the contractors. This is the key to building the interior you saw in the visualisations as accurately as possible.
What design supervision includes
The service includes regular site visits, consultations with contractors, checking work against the drawings and prompt resolution of non-standard situations. We work closely with builders, installers and suppliers to make sure the approved design is implemented precisely. We record deviations, propose technical solutions and agree the necessary adjustments without losing the idea of the project. We also monitor the accuracy of colours, furniture placement, lighting and finishing materials — especially important for custom-made items such as bespoke furniture or finishes.
Author’s supervision cost
Author’s supervision within Lviv costs $200 per month, and in Warsaw PLN 1,500 net per month. The price includes a weekly site visit (up to 3 hours), photo documentation and a short report after each visit, and contact with contractors between visits. Visits outside the city and extra hours are charged separately. Order author’s supervision
When to order design supervision
It is especially worth considering for renovations with layout changes, projects with custom-made furniture and commercial premises where execution errors directly affect the business. It is also worth ordering if your contractors have no experience with projects of similar complexity. Even well-prepared documentation does not eliminate the need for quick decisions on site — and these often determine the final result. Small deviations that go unnoticed early can later require expensive rework or compromises.
How design supervision works
Once the project is approved, we agree a schedule of site visits according to the stages of construction and finishing work. At each visit we check the work against the documentation, photograph the site and prepare a short summary with comments for the contractor. Between visits the team stays in touch remotely, so decisions can be made quickly without stopping work on site. Each visit ends with a short report for the client, so you always know at what stage the implementation is.
Design supervision can be ordered as a separate service or in addition to a full interior design project or architectural design — in both cases the goal is the same: to keep the result true to the design. This applies to private interiors and commercial projects of any scale.
Frequently asked questions
Is design supervision mandatory?
It is not mandatory but highly recommended — especially for more complex projects where the risk of deviating from the original concept is higher.
How often do you visit the site?
We set the frequency individually depending on the stage and complexity of the work — usually visits fall on key moments, such as a change of work stage or the installation of finishing elements.
Can I order supervision if another team designed the project?
Yes. In that case we first analyse the existing project documentation in order to assess the implementation correctly.
What happens if a contractor deviates from the approved design?
We record the deviation, propose a solution in line with the original concept and agree the next steps with both the contractor and the client before work continues.
Do I need supervision if an experienced team is doing the renovation?
Even experienced contractors may interpret some details in their own way — design supervision ensures decisions follow the approved concept, not just the contractor’s general idea of it.
Typical situations on site
In practice we most often have to clarify details that are hard to foresee fully at the drawing stage: the exact position of a socket relative to furniture that is not yet on site, how a chosen material reacts to the actual lighting in the room, or how a contractor interprets the junction between two different floor finishes.
Each such detail seems minor, but together they determine how closely the result matches the concept. Sometimes the site reveals discrepancies between the project and the real dimensions — a wall turns out a few centimetres different from the survey, or services run in unexpected places. Such decisions have to be made quickly and agreed with everyone involved so the work does not stop. Regular presence on site also helps to spot the use of the wrong material or the wrong sequence of work in time — for example, when finishing starts before rough work is complete. Intervening at this stage costs far less than fixing a finished result. Why it matters for commercial projects For a business the cost of a construction error is often higher than for a private home: a deviation from the project can mean a delayed opening, non-compliance with regulations or inconveniences that visitors and staff will feel every day. For clinics, offices and service venues, a specialist’s presence on site at key stages is not a formality but a way to protect the investment from expensive rework after opening. This is especially true for projects with complex engineering — medical rooms, restaurant kitchens or production premises, where the precision of equipment installation determines whether the space can be fully used. Design supervision by SPACE DESIGN means confidence that your interior will be built exactly as planned. No compromises. No unnecessary costs. No disappointments.
